Artist Statement:
My illustration is inspired by the playful logic of rotating panel puzzle games often found in children’s playgrounds—those interactive boards where kids can spin horizontal panels to mix and match animal parts, like a bunny’s head, a bear’s body, and a duck’s feet. Even when the combinations are unexpected, we accept them without question—and often delight in the results.
This illustration brings that same spirit to identity and self-expression. Each character is designed like a mix-and-match puzzle: no matter how you rotate or rearrange their head, body, or outfit, it always makes sense—because it’s theirs. Dressed in rainbow colours and proudly doing their own thing, these characters celebrate queerness, individuality, and the freedom to just be. There’s no “right” combination—only what’s real for you.
