Behind the Seams: Wear It Purple Day Tees

Every year, we partner with WhyNot to launch a Wear It Purple Tee Competition.
This year's winner Fiona, created a design inspired by community, belonging and the strength we find in one another. Fiona's design celebrates the diversity and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community through one of Australia's most iconic birds, the magpie.
About the design
The front of the T-shirt captures the joy of being your authentic self. Magpies, coloured in the vibrant shades of different Pride flags, are shown flying, resting and simply existing together. Hidden throughout the design are young magpies taking their first steps into the world, watched over by mentor birds, representing the importance of safe, supportive communities where everyone can belong.
The back of the design tells another part of the story.
Featuring magpies inspired by the Unity Pride Flag, it represents resilience, solidarity and standing together in the face of adversity. It reminds every young person that they never have to face challenges alone.

Bringing Fiona's Wear It Purple Day design to life involved careful attention to colour, detail and print quality. We worked through multiple samples to make sure the final print stayed true to Fiona's original artwork, while maintaining a soft, comfortable feel on the tee.
From the colours and fine details to the final placement, each step of the production process was about making sure Fiona's design was represented as she intended.
